This newsreel illustrates the significant damage wrought by the hurricane that struck Galveston on September 8, 1900, killing over 6,000 people and decimating the city. This silent footage, credited to Thomas A. Edison, is a single panning shot of the wreckage of the Galveston Power House, the building that once supplied electricity for the City of Galveston. The newsreel represents one of the earliest films of Texas as well as some of the oldest footage in the world.
