In this striking composition, Hokusai
contrasts the rippling pool at the top of
the waterfall with the columns of water
crashing downwards.
The picnickers on the bank look as if they
have chosen a dangerous spot to rest but
they seem quite relaxed, warming their
sake (rice wine).
