The Announciation

The Annunciation is one of the major feasts celebrated by the Orthodox religion. It is the revelation to Mary, the mother of Jesus, by the archangel Gabriel that she would conceive a child to be born the Son of God. Typically Annunciation icons will simply show the Mother of God, the archangel Gabriel and architecture to indicate that the scene is taking place indoors.
