The Virgin Mary kneels at prayer in her bedchamber. The Archangel Gabriel announces that she has been chosen to bear the Son of God. God the Father, at the upper edge of the print, gives a gesture of blessing, while shafts of divine light lead to the dove of the Holy Spirit glowing radiantly above Mary. In the lower right corner is a lily, the traditional symbol of the Virgin's purity.
