The haloed figure is probably one from a group representing the Twelve Apostles. Typical of such representations, he is dressed in a tunic and cloak, carries a copy of the gospels, and holds a staff that would have supported an attribute specific to him. If the cross at the top of the staff is original to this figure, then it would represent Saint Philip the Apostle. This panel is one of two from the same series owned by the museum, the other shows Saint Thomas.
