The ancient Kaukana, located near the modern Punta Secca (the ancient Ras Karan-Rosacambra), in late antiquity (IV - IX century AD) was an important anchorage along the military and ration routes that from North Africa, through Malta, they reached Sicily. There are three groups of ruins located along the coast that correspond to the ancient town of Kaukana. Two of these, very close to each other, are located east of Punta Secca. The various districts of the Kaukana chorion sprang up on an area that had never been occupied before.
