The arrival of the stagecoach driven by the postillion in the village is depicted according to an iconographic scheme that Ligabue tested in a large number of paintings. In fact, the recurring motif of the three draft horses opening out like a fan, the lateral ones white, the central one brown with the muzzle and legs pointing upwards. Familiar presences are also the dogs who, to the equine fury, well expressed in the wide-open eyes and in the teeth exhibited by the open jaws, respond by barking and jumping towards the center of the road. Beyond the brick wall, the Gothic village in the background, full of carefully described buildings, is poetically immersed in a blue atmosphere, merging in the distance with the sky.
