"This capital that decorates one of the Maricel windows was sculpted by Pere Jou i Francisco (Barcelona, 1891 – Sitges, 1964). It belongs to a series inspired in fables, in this case “The donkey that brings some relics”, from Jean de la Fontaine (Châteu-Thierry, Aisne, 1621 – Paris, 1965).
Jou represents an ass walking proud, with his head high, in front of a crowd that looks at him fascinated and shows him its respect, not for him but for his load. In fact it’s a criticism to those that holding a civil service position believe they deserve admiration.

True to his pleasure to represent everyday life and immediate environment models, Jou portrayed Sitges Mayor, Bonventura Julià, as the character on the left of the composition that greets with his top hat in his hand.

Pere Jou adapted his work to limited spaces as capitals always keeping the naturalism and expressiveness characteristic of his character which is a good example of his ability."
