16th Century

Museo del Duomo e Cattedrale di Fidenza

Museo del Duomo e Cattedrale di Fidenza

The small painting, probably destined to an altar cymatium, represents the twelve apostles assisting, around an empty tomb/sarcophagus, at the assumption of Mary. In the XIX century it was collocated on the cymatium of the new ancona in the apse of the new church of Saint Mchael in Fidenza, from where it was stolen after the second world war and recovered in the 1970s.
