German Historical Museum
Berlin, Germany

The painting is a reduced copy of the famous painting "La Barrière de Clichy" by Horace Vernet. Like the large-format original, this version also testifies to the courage and determination of the citizens of Paris towards the enemy. In 1814 Vernet also took part in the fights at Porte Clichy and was awarded the Legion of Honour Cross. After the presentation of his original in the Paris Salon in 1820 the painter immediately became famous.
