Wrest Park belonged to the Grey family from the Middle Ages. In the early 18th century the gardens were enlarged and altered and a number of garden buildings constructed. Lancelot 'Capability' Brown made further alterations later in the century, and further garden buildings were added.

The Bath House and a cascade were built between circa 1769 and 1771 to designs by Edward Stevens. It included a plunge pool made of roughly cut blocks of stone, designed as a romantic semi-ruin. This photograph shows the bathhouse after restoration - part of a twenty year project at Wrest Park.
