Possibly originating in the festive rituals of the Roman Saturnalia, the Verdiales Festival is one of Andalusia's oldest celebrations. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest by the Andalusian Regional Government, the staff of command is crafted from a bull's tail or a flexible branch, covered in ribbons and embellished at the tip with small, colorful hanging ribbons.
