Berlin, Germany

In the entourage of Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia (1828-1885) the painter Georg Bleibtreu (1828-1892) took part in the deployment of the Prussian army. His painting of the decisive battle of Königgrätz shows injured and captured Austrians in the left foreground, while Prussian Ulans and Hussars lead their attack past a hill from the right. The monarchical, political, and military leadership of Prussia had gathered there, personified by King William I, Prime Minister Otto von Bismarck, Minister of War Albrecht von Roon (1803-1879), and Chief-of-Staff Helmuth Count von Moltke (1800-1891), to follow the fighting and the war-decisive Prussian victory.
