It was the decisive battle in the victory over Siena, and took place on the 2nd of August 1554 in Val di Chiana. An army of Florentine exiles (anti-Medici), of French and the Grigioni – led by Piero Strozzi – attacked the Medicean and Imperial troops, only to see their cavalry attack broken up and a heavy defeat inflicted.
