Museo Nacional de Arte Romano
Mérida, Spain

This was possibly used on the floor in a wealthy family’s house. It depicts a very common recreational scene: the lord of the village hunting a wild boar. It was discovered in what is known as the Villa de las Tiendas, in the region of Mérida. These villas were the country residences of Roman noblemen. The mosaics are made with tiny cubes of stone called 'tesselae'.
