The Bramão table telephone was designed and conceived in partnership with Cristiano Augusto Bramão and Maximiliano Augusto Herrmann. This telephone is an international reference since it was the first one that had both the earpiece and the microphone assembled together in the same device. Having initially conducted several simultaneous conversations between Lisbon, Bom Sucesso, Barreiro and Setúbal, with success an excellent quality.
Bramão table telephone, model number 8 consists of wood, with parts for the connections in gold metal and the microphone mouthpiece also in gold metal, and it has a rectangular base which fits the earpiece and microphone, both fixed. On the rear side is the Morse manipulator, which served to trigger an alternative system of telegraphy.
Maximiliano Augusto Herrmann, was born in Lisbon in 1838 and he studied at the Industrial Institute of Lisbon, from 1857 to 1862. He worked as a telegraph lines Inspector for the North and East Portuguese Railway Company. Herrmann developed great improvements in Morse receiver apparatus making them simpler and easier to regulate.
Herrmann and Cristiano Augusto Bramão, developed a partnership in order to innovate and improve the telephone.
