The floral brooch of brilliants with three pendants was worn by Wilhelmina when she was a bride. Diamond is the most expensive of the Earth’s minerals and tops the Mohs scale of hardness. The harder the stone, the finer it is. Diamonds are formed when carbon is subjected to extreme heat and pressure within the Earth’s mantle.

The various ways of cutting and faceting make the translucent stones sparkle. With its 58 or 57 facets, brilliant-cutting became very popular during the Rococo period of the 18th century and is said to have been invented in Venice in around 1700.
