Designated a cultural property by the Tottori city, the Bukemon Gate is the front gate to the residence of the feudal retainer Minoura Family. The Minoura Family were the “bantō” or leader of samurais and enjoyed a stipend of about 2,000 “goku” of rice (a “koku” was about 180 litres). The gate functions as the entrance to the Tottori Prefectural Library today, thanks to Yoshida Shōya who, as an activist of the Mingei movement, devoted himself to preserving this gate.
