Canberra, Australia

At one time during a police search in the Warby Ranges I allowed the men, seeing they had had no warmth for weeks, to set fire to an old hollow tree. Historical record

It is typical of Australia that to keep warm the policemen set fire to a whole, standing hollow tree, which would have been a blazing beacon to any Kellys or their friends. It looks spectacular, Wagnerian. Sidney Nolan Text © National Gallery of Australia, Canberra 2010
