Numerous petitions from inhabitants of Ettelbruck, Diekirch, Wiltz, Clervaux, Vianden, Remich, Grevenmacher, and others call for a reduction in the amount granted to the King-Grand Duke in the civil list. Set at 150,000 guilders (317,400 francs) in 1842, this amount represents one-eighth of the state's ordinary revenue in 1843. The King-Grand Duke ultimately renounces the unpaid portion of the civil list for 1848. Article 43 of the new constitution sets its amount at 100,000 francs.
