The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on the Pripyat River in northern Ukraine was pictured as the International Space Station orbited 257 miles above Eastern Europe. Across the Ukrainian border in Belarus, the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve was created to enclose territory most affected by radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl disaster.
