The 19th century French painter Puvis de Chavannes was also known as a mural painter. In 1874, he completed the series "The Life of Saint Genevieve" for the Panthéon in Paris. This composition is an esquisse (oil painting study) of the mural, painted as one scene in the series. It expresses a scene in which Saint Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris, is discovered by Saint Germanus, and is informed of her life as a saint.
