Alexey and Sergey Tkachev formed an unusually strong artistic tandem.
Natives of the Bryansk region, they studied under the wonderful artist and teacher Sergey Gerasimov at Moscow’s Surikov Art Institute. Their work explored the variety and riches of rural life.
"The Children" reflects the impressionistic preoccupations of the Tkachev brothers. These country girls stand on a wooden jetty, lit by the summer sun. The water is rippling and sparkling beneath them - the artists paint it with textured brush strokes seeking the illusion of a vivid fluttering surface. The wind plays with the girls' dresses, the bright midday sun (there is almost no shade at all) dazzles the eyes as it reflects off the water. Every child has a character of her own - perky, shy, cheerful or timid. The artists make it possible to discern the individual natures of the children thanks to their careful observation and understanding. "The Children" by Tkachevs displays a carefree happiness, the joy of life and enjoyment of every moment, grasped and carefully painted with incredible accuracy by the artists.
