The church was erected in 1614 on the last soft slopes of the Iblei before they merge with the Ippari Valley south of the city, just outside what was once inhabited at the time. The church, in the last part of the last century, under the impulse of the late priest Angelo Guastella, was well restored, including the beautiful eighteenth-century choir, and reopened for worship.
