In the past, the church of “Santa Maria della Gratia” was not only considered a cradle of the Christian faith, but also a refuge for revolutionaries. The church and its convent, which is better known as the "former Capuchin church", were strongly linked to the growth of spirituality in Comiso. In the eighteenth century, the church was leant to a crypt and a mortuary chapel, the walls of which have some niches containing the remains of monks and other civilians.
