On the eve of 1848, only the manufacturing plant located at Schleifmühle, where 70% of the country's fabrics are produced, can be considered a "true" industrial enterprise. The remaining 30% of textile production is distributed across 45 small workshops nationwide, particularly in the north. In the 1848 petitions from Wiltz and Esch/Sauer, the local weavers will complain about the competition from the Godchaux brothers.
