The Conversation Between a Cossack and a Pole

The main character of the painting is Cossack Mamai (aka Cossack playing kobza) traditional folkloric character. His usual attributes are a horse, a kobza, and a cavalry sword. Pictures of Cossack Mamai were very popular among Ukrainians in the late 18th – 19th century.
