It has 68 pages and 14 sheets, and the first edition was published in 1524.

With support from Emperor Charles V, Apiano, a mathematician and cosmographer, compiled his knowledge in this work. In it, he describes the world in relation to the shape of the Earth, along with the weather, climate, geography and astronomy. Apiano was one of the first cosmographers to propose that the Moon's movement could determine the position of a ship at the sea. He also applied his mathematical knowledge to astronomy, cartography and navigation, performing calculations using his own mathematical instruments. His works were used widely in universities in Spain and overseas to teach astronomy.
