After the return from his academic studies and his stay in France, Mednyánszky tried to apply his knowledge of new modern art to scenes and motifs of his home. This also includes this work, where he depicts a common motif of landscape at the foot of the High Tatras, where he often went on several-day trips to paint. The moment of the spring rain affected the way he perceived the landscape, which we can include among the moody landscapes influenced by the Barbizon school.
