To express the spirit of his time, Pimenov does not need highlyexpressive themes. His art is a chronicle of everyday life, the isolated moment, the image-impression. In the 1960s the layout and composition of the artist’s canvases changed in comparison with his earlier works. The illusory nature of space gave way to precise framing, while the images started to combine documentary realism with imaginative generalizations. Being fond of cinema, in “The Creation of the World” the artist depicts the theme as if in a single take, where everything is clearly balanced from a rhythmic point of view, with no unnecessary details. It seems that before the viewer’s eyes something is happening: the creation of the world, its renewal. In front of us, apparently, we are presented with a modern-day Adam and Eve. The world created in the painting bears no hostility: the nakedness of man and pristine wilderness are presented as two parts of the same order. But the fragile balance of forces is already decisively tipping in favor of the people. The long-range perspective of the painting is overlapped by the wheels of a giant truck, almost totally obscuring the sky.
