Jeju has a special geographical characteristic of most seashore villages carrying out a practice of half farming and half fishing except for the areas of mountainous regions that are 300m above sea level. The Jeju haenyeos especially go out to the sea according to the tide schedule and also worked in the fields. This kind of working hard at both the fields and sea gives us a glimpse into the strong attitude the haenyeos had towards their lives.
