This engraving shows the Crown and Anchor Tavern on the Strand, London. Positioned near the corner of Arundel Street, opposite St Clement's Church, the Crown and Anchor was a famous meeting place for political gatherings from the late 18th Century until it burned down in the 1850s. It was here that the early meetings of the London Mechanics Institute were held.
