The Wakefield Tower forms part of the Tower of London and dates to 1220-40. The Tower of London has functioned as an armoury, arsenal, mint, prison and military fortress. In 1868 a new chamber was built on an upper floor in Wakefield Tower to house the Crown Jewels.
