An illustrator turned blacksmith, Danish-Swedish artist Jokum Lind Jensen honed his flair for blacksmithing with a keen eye for restoration. Intrigued by the contrasts between materials,
he seeks to understand new ways to forge tradition
with modern design tropes, exploring themes such as compactness and weight that fuel an ongoing narrative in his work.
A raw expressive work that alludes to the forms
of archaic tools or weapons, the purely aesthetic purpose of this piece raises enigmatic questions.
The suggestion of functionality is superseded
by a desire to harness the visual power of steel, exposing the material’s rigidities as well as the malleable forms that emerge during the forging process. The steel therefore serves as a medium
for a more intricate narrative that highlights forces inherent to nature, but also reminding us of the essential elements that have faded from daily life.
