This piece shows the moment of Juan Sebastián Elcano's death, during the second expedition to the Spice Islands. It is not surprising that there are many Basque sailors' signatures on Elcano's will and testament, among them a young Andrés de Urdaneta.
This picture was ordered by the Regional Council of Gipuzkoa on the fourth centenary of the first circumnavigation of the world.
