The earthly rising towards the divine

The chapel ceiling is marked by the illusionism of Franz Ignaz Josef Flurer, and his convincingly painted architecture creates the appearance of the earthly ascending into the heavenly dimension by featuring angels on clouds and rising towards God the Father. Angelic heads, appearing in the celestial sphere, according to tradition during the singing of a famous hymn “O Crux, spes unica!” (O cross, our only hope!), are celebrating the Feast of the Cross, Elevation of the Cross.
