The Estuary

Although Lowry experimented with watercolour, he preferred painting with oils as this medium allowed him to make changes to his compositions over time, reworking or adding to them until he considered them finished. He usually had several paintings underway at any one time, returning to them over a period of weeks or months until they were completed.
