Jose Dávila’s paintings are, like his large-scale, geometric sculpture outside Oklahoma Contemporary’s entrance, balanced compositions made of discordant shapes. Each canvas includes tiny bits—shapes, colors—that appear in other artworks from Western art history, including sections resembling turn-of-the-twentieth century paintings by Swedish artist Hilma af Klint. Drawing on his architectural training in mathematical precision, Dávila offers a unique perspective on longstanding artistic tradition.
