The subject of the painting is the yearly fair, which was held on November 2nd in Piazza Marina and was much appreciated by the inhabitants of Palermo. The event became the figurative occasion to represent an urban space with a rainy atmosphere and autumn brume. Here, the illustration of a melancholic mood is achieved by the spiritualist presence of gloomy figures which contrast with the vivid luminist counterpoint represented by the shiny lighting. This canvas is probably the last of Michele Catti’s artistic production.
