In his studies of anatomy, Leonardo implemented a strategy of representation based simultaneously on image and word, on “figuration” and on “description”. Some general images reveal a comparison with the illustrations in the Fasciculo de medicina: for example, the “tree of veins” – the circulatory system – (about 1491) and the large table of the female anatomy (approx. 1508).
