The Festival of Britain South Bank site under construction, Lambeth, Greater London

The Festival of Britain site chosen for London's South Bank exhibition had been a busy industrial area of wharves, mills and timber yards. Much of the area had been devastated by bombing during the Second World War. Land was cleared to make way for temporary and permanent Festival buildings. This Aerofilms photographs shows the construction of the temporary Dome of Discovery and the permanent Royal Festival Hall either side of the South Eastern Railway line.
