The first Italian flag taken to Firenze

This young man with the Italian flag on the San Miniato hill just outside Florence evokes that city's peaceful insurrection on April 27th 1859 and the ousting of Grand Duke Leopoldo II, the day after the start of the French-Piedmontese war against Austria.
