Perched at top of the towering obelisk is the Flame of Independence. The Flame is made of 14.5 tons of bronze and takes the form of a 14 m cone. The flame-like structure is gilded with 50 kg of pure gold. The elevator is placed within the cavity of this structure. The overall height of the Monument, from its base up to the top of the flame structure, is 13,2 m, while the height of the Lookout (scenery view). Platform to the top of the flame structure is 17 m.
A lighting rod is mounted at the top of the flame structure to protect the Monument from unwanted damages caused by lightning. The towering obelisk with its representation of the eternal flame is reflection of the fighting spirit of the people of Indonesia in maintaining and reinforcing the vastness of the revolution to achieve independence.
