Zell in Palatinate, started in 1407
Parchment
The fraternity book of Zell mainly registers pilgrims imploring Saint Philipp of Zell, a holy helper in cases of childlessness. Coming from England, Philipp had settled in Palatinate as a hermit in the 8th century.
Fols. IIv – IIIr: A double-page miniature opens the book. The image register at the top shows the miracle of resurrection of Saint Philipp. The already deceased saint sits up on his bier again. He blesses an anonymous "great man" of the Frankish King Pippin, whom he had converted to Christianity. In the lower image register: Clerical and lay pilgrims kneel beseeching Saint Philipp for help.
