At Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite A GOES-A was encapsulated inside its payload fairing aboard a Delta rocket at Complex 17. GOES-A is being launched by the Kennedy Space Center for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and will provide round-the-clock coverage of the powerful natural forces creating the weather in the Western Hemisphere.
