The Ghent Altarpiece: Adoration of the Mystic Lamb

The central foreground contains a bronze fountain with an octagonal marble basin, from which twelve jets of water spray out. The number twelve represents the tribes of Israel and the Apostles. The basin is surrounded by a little moat, the bottom of which is sprinkled with precious stones.
