The Greater Sacrifice

The painting appealed to the spirit of solidarity among the "community of the people". It shows Hitler Youths collecting donations for the Winter Relief Organisation, while two women look towards an invalid war veteran. In the background a young widow pushes her pram. In light of the "Total War", all Germans were to subordinate their personal sacrifice and individual suffering to the "final victory".
