Watercolour of the Hermitage at Frogmore by Samuel Howitt (1756/57–1822), showing two women and a man adjacent to the entrance porch of a small thatched building in a wooded glade with two bee skeps adjacent. Although annotated on the mount, 'Princess Elizabeth's Cottage, Frogmore, Michael Rooker', a similar view in the Royal Collection at Windsor and is acknowledged as by Howitt. The Hermitage was designed by Princess Charlotte, the third daughter of George II & Queen Charlotte. The King purchased the estate as a country retreat for his family in 1792. Acquired with HLF Collecting Cultures Fund grant.
