Based on a painting by the well-known modern Chinese painter Zhang Daqian (1899-1983 AD), this piece of needlework, by use of a series of embroidery techniques including long and short stitches (changduan zhen, 长短针), diagonal stitches (xie zhen, 斜针), outline stitch (gunzhen, 滚针), full-and-broken-line stitches (xushi zhen, 虚实针), etc., meticulously and vividly illustrates the gesture and facial expression of the figure, as well as the agility of the parrot, creating a tranquil scene of enjoying life.
