In many of Francesco Vezzoli’s videos the point of departure is a tribute to auteur film, while in others there is a strong reference to the popular culture of reality shows and soap operas. The sets of his videos are meticulously curated and entrusted to professionals in the sector. In "The Kiss (Let’s play Dynasty)" Helmut Berger and the artist reference an episode from the 1980s American soap opera Dynasty, in which the protagonist, Alex Carrington, argues with her son, one of the first openly bisexual characters in television history. The video illustrates a play of allusions and citations that links the North American televisual idiom with that of European film in a sequence of contrasting references: auteur film and the television series, “high” and popular culture.
